Erich E. Sumner Award luncheon

12h  Les Marécottes, Hôtel des Milles Etoiles: presentation of the award by a President of the IEEE to Werner Bux  and Hans R. Mueller «For contributions to the design, development and standardization of the  token-ring local area network.»

L'électromagnétisme avant Salvan, by Fred Gardiol, Honorary Professor at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne.

Que s'est-il passé à Salvan en 1895? by Yves Fournier, historian, Professor at Saint Maurice College.
15h30 Marconi's work at Villa Griffone, by Gabriele Falciasecca, Professor at the University of Bologna and Director of Fondazione Guglielmo Marconi, and Dr. Barbara Valotti, Fondazione Guglielmo Marconi, with live demonstration of historical apparatus by Mr. Maurizio Bigazzi.

Dedication of Marconi Milestone plaque on the «Pierre Bergère»

17h  Meeting place: Salvan, in front of the church, 200m walk (upwards) to the Pierre Bergère, overlooking the village. The plaque celebrates Marconi's Early Wireless Experiments in 1895. It will be dedicated by a President of the IEEE and Mr. Pascal Couchepin, President of the Swiss Confederation, in presence of Princess Elettra Marconi Giovanelli, of the Ambassador of Italy, of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Science of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne, and of other personalities.
All persons interested by the origins of wireless are kindly invited to participate in the open-air dedication ceremony. The celebration will be followed by a reception offered by the Municipality of Salvan and the IEEE Switzerland Section.

 

Note

- Participants can stay overnight in Salvan, Les Marécottes or Martigny.

- The final program will be sent to you by regular mail in August 2003.
